PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The recently opened Zhang Senior Center in Portage is picking up more kudos from those in the construction business.
The Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter awarded the center and construction firm AVB its “Excellence in Construction” award in the “New Construction, $9 – 11 Million” category. They say the recognition celebrates the exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication exhibited by the team
behind the construction of this remarkable facility. The award ceremony was held earlier this month.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for the outstanding achievement in the ‘New Construction, $9 – 11 Million’ category,” said Kim Phillips, Director of Senior Citizen Services. “This facility embodies the values of excellence, sustainability, and community, and we commend the entire team at AVB for their exceptional work.”
The ABC/WMC award marks the fifth award received for the design and construction of the Portage Zhang Senior Center.
Officials with the Zhang Senior Center say they provide programs and opportunities that promote personal growth, health, friendship, and independence for adults aged 50 and over. It offers a wide range of amenities and services tailored to the needs of senior citizens, including a fitness center, activity rooms, indoor and outdoor community gathering spaces, a commercial kitchen, ADA-accessible restrooms, gaming space including billiards, ping pong, and other activities, and dedicated space for quiet reading and reflection.
