KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo City Commission Monday night approved new lighting contracts with Consumers Energy to improve safety just west of the Western Michigan University campus, on West Michigan Avenue and Fraternity Drive, where car-pedestrian accidents have proven deadly, twice.
Commissioner Chris Praedel says it’s one of several improvements they have made in that area, in response to student concerns. He says they received a petition requesting upgrades to make the area safer.
Commissioners also approved new lighting for Ransom Street, which is undergoing a major reconstruction on the northside.
