ALBION, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured on Wednesday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while waiting for a school bus in Albion.
The Albion Department of Public Safety says it happened just after 6:30 a.m. at the entrance to the Wildflower Crossing Manufactured Home Community on 27 Mile Road.
According to officers, a car driven by a 33-year-old man from Albion struck the girl. ADPS officers provided the child with emergency medical care until paramedics arrived.
The child was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The ADPS drone was deployed to take aerial photos of the scene, and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team assisted with accident reconstruction. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
At this time, it is believed by investigators that the child was only standing a few feet from the edge of the road when she was struck.
ADPS says the driver of the vehicle that hit the girl has been cooperative with investigators.
Police encourages parents to speak with their children about staying at least 5 to 10 feet from the roadway whenever possible and not approach the bus or the roadway until instructed to by the bus driver.
They also are reminding drivers to be vigilant of children waiting for the bus in the early morning hours.
ADPS was assisted by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police, Marshall Ambulance, and Albion Community Ambulance.
