KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Consumers Energy will begin work next month to extend and expand underground electrical facilities in downtown Kalamazoo, which they say will improve capacity, reliability and support future growth.
This project represents a $3 million investment into Consumers Energy’s electrical system downtown in 2023. Since 2019, Consumers Energy says it has invested $17.5 million into downtown Kalamazoo’s electric system.
Work will include the temporary closure of North Park Street between Kalamazoo Avenue and Willard Street beginning October 9. Use of the sidewalk on the east side of North Park Street will also be restricted in the closure area.
A portion of Park Street between North and Willard streets will be temporarily converted to allow for two-way traffic to help with traffic flow in the area. Work is expected to be complete in about a month.
Consumers Energy says businesses in the area will remain open and accessible.
