KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners got their first look at the County Administrator’s proposed budget for next year, and it should give county employees reason to cheer.
Kevin Catlin says he is proposing 4% step increases and 3% salary hikes, and will be beefing up their staff to recruit more manpower to fill the many vacancies that now exist in almost all County Departments.
Catlin says the budget is one of his staff’s largest annual tasks.
Board Chairman John Taylor says he has some differences of opinion with the administration on spending and investment strategies, but he says it’s nothing they can’t work out.
This week’s presentation was just a general overview. Commissioners will receive their budget books in the next two weeks and the deliberations will continue over the next couple of months.
