ALLEGAN MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An accident Friday morning in Allegan County’s Overisel Township has claimed the life of a 14-year-old Zeeland area youth.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies were summoned to 137th Avenue near 44th Street at around 6:00 a.m. on a report of a vehicle on fire.
When they arrived, deputies found a Jeep Wrangler that had apparently struck a tree before bursting into flames.
After the fire was extinguished, deputies located the male driver still in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of next of kin, and also due to his being a juvenile.
The accident closed 137th Avenue for several hours.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by AMR Ambulance, Overisel Fire Dept., Hamilton Fire Dept., and the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
