KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After the COVID-19 pandemic and last year’s Superintendent controversy, members of the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education hope they have turned the corner.
A new Superintendent is in place, board vacancies have been filled, and schools are open again, and they say it’s time to focus on school improvements.
At Thursday evening’s Board of Education meeting, several trustees, including Takisha Johnson, Tianna Harrison, and Jennie Hill mentioned that they are finally back to full strength.
New Superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says he spent the first week touring the schools, and says he feels it too.
Dr. Slade restated his goals for the school year, which includes boosting reading scores, improving school safety, communication, and attendance.
The Board of Education elected Karla Murphy to be their Secretary and Maricela Alcala to be Treasurer, filling vacancies that opened after two trustees resigned in June and July.
On your best day , on your worst day your a child of Almighty God of Love.
