KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education is accepting applications to fill one of their board vacancies.
This comes after Secretary Megan Maddock sent a letter to the Board of Education announcing that she was stepping down effective after their July 20 meeting.
Those interested in filling the position have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1 to apply.
After applications are received, trustees will review them at a special to be held on Wednesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. Interviews will then be held with four to six applicants on Thursday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the KPS Administration Building at 1220 Howard Street, with a candidate to be chosen at the end of that meeting.
The new trustee will then begin their term on Thursday, August 10, effective until December 31, 2026.
The application can be found at the KPS website, www.kalamazoopublicschools.com, or may be picked up at the Administration Building, 1220 Howard Street, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Michigan Election Law (excerpt) Act 116 of 1954, Section 168.302 School Board Member Eligibility: An individual is eligible for election as a school board member if the individual is a citizen of the United States and is a qualified and registered elector of the school district the individual seeks to represent.
