LANSING, MI — Lansing’s Sparrow Medical Group has agreed to pay 671-thousand-300 dollars to resolve allegations they violated the False Claims Act for improper billing. The settlement was announced on Wednesday.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten says the settlement reflects the commitment of his office to work to “protect the Medicare population and maintain the system of trust and accountability necessary” between the patient, doctors, and federal programs.
Sparrow was accused of using a billing provision that allowed the care to be billed under a doctor’s name and reimbursement rate when care was provided by mid-level providers and criteria for the billing were not met.
