KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Bike Friendly Kalamazoo has presented two Civic Leadership Awards in 2023, recognizing recipients for their efforts in making the community more bicycle friendly.
For its long time role in communicating information about bicycling, BFK presented one of its 2023 Civic Leadership Awards to WKZO’s Morning Show with Ken Lanphear.
“I am proud to live in a community that values being bicycle friendly,” remarked Lamphear. “Our community backs that up by providing many opportunities to share the love of cycling and encourages road safety. I’m happy I’ve been able to make the community aware of these efforts and recognize those who are making it happen.”
BFK presented another of its 2023 Civic Leadership Awards to the City of Kalamazoo’s Assistant City Manager, Rebekah Kik, widely credited with orchestrating the City’s Vision 2025 community planning effort.
“A safe and friendly travel environment for all users is one of the most important impacts we can leave to our future City,” said Kik. “Creating a friendly bicycling environment is an important infrastructure investment.”
Nominations for Bike Friendly Kalamazoo’s Civic Leadership Awards are submitted in response to its annual public survey and are published in its annual meeting notes. BFK’s board then votes on the finalists.
