KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners will be holding a retreat this week to focus on their next budget.
They talk about finances at every meeting, but there are overarching issues that need to be tackled, like what happens when COVID-19 relief money runs out, what should they do with a jump in tax income due to housing inflation, how can they make the money they have go farther, as well as find new sources of revenue.
Board Chair John Taylor says he thinks the county needs to refocus spending on staff, after the last couple of decades improving their facilities.
The annual retreat begins at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Epic Center in Kalamazoo.
