LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A local state lawmaker who is also the Minority Vice Chair of the Michigan House Elections Committee is calling out Attorney General Dana Nessel after she filed forgery, election fraud, and conspiracy felony charges against 16 Trump electors from 2020.
Republican State Representative Rachelle Smit of Allegan County, whose district covers portions of Allegan, Ottawa, Barry, and Eaton counties said Nessel, as Attorney General “is a threat to the rule of law and our system of governance.”
“I was an election clerk before entering the legislature, and I’m very familiar with the administration of our elections. What the Trump electors did in 2020 was completely legal, completely valid, and anticipating that there would be an honest investigation into Michigan voter fraud,” Smit said.
“The Trump electors were preserving the ability for a voter fraud investigation to happen after December 15, 2020. The Trump electors committed no forgery, no fraud, and zero violation of Michigan’s election laws. Dana Nessel knows this, but she brought charges against these people anyway.”
Nessel says the 16 met in the basement of the state’s Republican Party headquarters to sign paperwork falsely claiming former President Trump won the 2020 election.
Sorry, try to twist the truth is no excuse for each one of those charged from knowingly doing something illegal. Each person knew the courts had rules that election fraud did not happen, yet they went to Lansing pretending to be elector’s of the losing party. Hold them accountable and keep our democracy strong.
Yes they are innocent until proven guilty, which will happen in court. How can anyone vote for someone who supports illegal activities? She needs to fail in next election.
Yes she should go after Nessel and Benson. They are both crooks and belong behind bars.
