KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Commissioner Chris Praedel has launched his re-election bid to continue serving on the Kalamazoo City Commission.
Praedel, 37, is serving his first-term and fourth year as a City Commissioner and was first elected in November 2019.
Praedel has served as liaison to the Planning Commission, Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study (KATS), and Pension Board. He was also appointed by his
colleagues to serve on the First Amendment Subcommittee and City Attorney Search Committee.
In 2015, he was appointed to serve as a member of the City of Kalamazoo’s Blue Ribbon Revenue Panel to examine strategies to stabilize the city’s budget.
The life-long resident of Kalamazoo has resided in the Milwood neighborhood for the past nine years with his wife, Erin, and three boys, ages 8, 6 and 3.
He is a graduate of both Kalamazoo Public Schools and Western Michigan University and holds a BA in Management along with an MA in Teaching from Dominican University.
“We have been through so much together as a community in the last four years, facing some of the greatest challenges Kalamazoo has faced in the last century,” said Praedel. “We have endured these challenges and still accomplished so much. We still have so much to finish. I want to be a part of seeing this transformative work through and continue to put my experience to work on behalf of the residents of Kalamazoo.”
Praedels’ priorities include: Neighborhood gun violence and safety, housing, supporting youth, investing in critical infrastructure, non-motorized transportation, and small business incubation and entrepreneurship.
