SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 12, 2023) – A 33-year-old South Haven man is behind bars after a traffic stop led to a large-scale narcotics bust on Tuesday.
According to Van Buren County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Casey Davis, the unnamed man had been under surveillance under the suspicion of possessing a sizable amount of Fentanyl pills. Making a traffic stop at the corner of Phoenix Road and Blue Star Highway for several moving violations, a deputy noticed the suspect was attempting to stuff pills under his seat, and about 40 blue pills that were disguised as Oxycodone were recovered. Later tests proved positive for Fentanyl.
A further search of the suspect at the Van Buren County Jail revealed an additional 50 purple Xanax pills inside of his underwear, and the man purportedly told detectives that they had come via the black market and not from any pharmacy. A search warrant of his residence was executed, but no additional narcotics were discovered there.
Davis did not disclose the suspect’s name or on what charges he may be facing as the investigation into the matter continues. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office (269-657-3101), Crime Stoppers (800-342-7867), or Van Buren County Silent Observer (269-343-2100).
