PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Portage man accused of stabbing a Kalamazoo man multiple times in the back has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder.
The Portage Department of Public Safety says 19-year-old Dylan Ajay Ortiz was arraigned on Wednesday, July 5 in 8th District Court in Kalamazoo with bond set at $10,000.
Authorities say Ortiz is charged with stabbing the 24-year-old victim of Kalamazoo during a domestic dispute in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Portage on Monday, July 3.
Portage Public Safety – Police and Fire Division got the call around 6:25 p.m. of the incident and responded to the 6900 block of South Westnedge where they determined the suspect and another man were involved in a domestic argument during a child custody exchange between the suspect and his sister’s ex-boyfriend.
The argument then got physical during which time the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the back.
Multiple other people who came with both parties then began to fight resulting in several other people who were injured but refused treatment.
The suspect was then taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail, and the victim was transported to Bronson Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office for review.
