KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University already has temporary licenses to begin alcohol sales at home football games at Waldo Stadium this fall. State legislative passage of a new bill will permit them to expand sales to other venues on campus, and that’s what they plan to do.
Athletic Director Dan Bartholomae took the proposal to the university’s Board of Trustees Thursday. The legislation, sponsored by State Senator Sean McCann of Kalamazoo, has passed in both the House and Senate and awaits the Governor’s signature.
Bartholomae says they plan to seek licenses for Waldo Stadium, University Arena and the Lawson Ice arena.
He says they will use the same plans to control sales and beef up security at the new facilities, which align with state requirements in the new bills.
Bartholomae says it could take three to six months for the new licensing procedure, and that’s why he brought it to the board at their June meeting.
