LANSING, MI — New sexual assault laws that were inspired by the Larry Nassar sexual assault scandal at Michigan State University have been signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The new laws create stricter punishments for the assaults and require the creation and distribution of comprehensive training materials for those required to report suspected child abuse and neglect. Nassar is serving decades in prison for possessing child pornography and for admitting he sexually assaulted athletes while working for MSU and USA Gymnastics.
