BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The City of Battle Creek is offering some guidance for the use of fireworks at home.
Fireworks regulations in the city are the same this year. Around Independence Day, you can use home/consumer fireworks from June 29 to July 4, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. each day. Fireworks are allowed on July 5 only if the date falls on a Friday or Saturday; it does not this year.
Residents are asked to respect veterans, pets, and others and to only use fireworks at home when they are allowed by law.
Fireworks violations could result in a $1,000 fine. If you have a fireworks complaint, call the non-emergency number at (269) 781-0911. You can also report it online, and include photos and video footage. Visit battlecreekmi.gov/police and click the Report a Crime icon.
In addition, the City of Battle Creek’s open burn ban continues due to the dry weather since early May. Despite the recent rain, Battle Creek Fire Department officials remain cautious, especially during a period that allows fireworks.
The burn ban means you can not burn any yard waste materials or have a recreational campfire. The city will not issue burn permits during the ban. If you have a current burn permit, you may not use it.
Cooking grills are allowed but make sure they are on a driveway or other surface away from your yard. Make sure you stay close to your grill, and have a water source nearby.
