KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The new Superintendent for Kalamazoo Public School says he has short term and long range goals for the district, and has made it clear where he draws the line for both student, staff, and parent behavior.
The Board of Education held a special workshop Monday night to hear Dr. Darrin Slade’s presentation.
In the next three months, he plans to build relationships, begin identifying needs, and specifically plan for the opening of school this fall. That all begins with talking to as many stakeholders as he can.
Long term, Slade says he plans to focus on the district’s most challenging issues, which he calls student achievement and graduation rates.
At the meeting Monday, Slade laid down a protocol for communications with school trustees and made it clear that when it comes to behavior, he expects everyone to be respectful and professional, including parents.
Trustees said they were impressed and in total agreement.
Dr. Slade is getting an early start to the job, because doesn’t officially take office until next week.
