LANSING, MI — Triple-A Michigan is predicting one-point-78-million Michiganders will travel at least 50 miles from home for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. That would be around 80-thousand more than last year’s record travel for the holiday at one-point-seven-million.
Triple-A says nearly one-point-six-million in the state will drive, with 71-thousand planning to fly. Travel nationally is also predicted to set new records. Triple-A predicts over 50-million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home, a number even higher than before the pandemic.
Many travelers expect to take a long weekend with the Fourth of July falling on a Tuesday next week. The Michigan Department of Transportation says they plan to open as many construction zones across the state as possible to ease holiday travel.
