KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education has selected six candidates to interview for the vacant trustee
position on the board.
The board reviewed 25 applications for the position Wednesday night before selecting six people to interview next Wednesday, June 28 at the KPS Administration Building, 1220 Howard St. The board will make its final selection at its July 6 meeting.
The six community members who will be interviewed and their June 28 interview times are:
Maricela Alcala (7:00 p.m.) – Alcala is the CEO of Gryphon Place, which provides restorative practices and suicide
prevention services to KPS. She is the mother of two KPS graduates.
Nate Anderson (8:30 p.m.) – Anderson is a human resources professional with a healthcare organization. He is also
the parent of three KPS students.
Charlene Cromwell (8 p.m.) – Cromwell is a retired teacher, who worked for KPS for 38 years.
Dr. Tamiko Garrett (6:30 p.m.) – Garrett is senior director of site services for Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo.
She is a KPS graduate.
Tiffany Hudok (7:30 p.m.) – Hudock is a KPS graduate and a KPS parent. She has a science background and has
volunteered with the district and the Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center.
Kathleen Wade-Jones (9:00 p.m.) – Wade-Jones is a social worker who owns her own counseling practice. She is a KPS
graduate and the parent of two KPS students.
“The board greatly appreciates the number of applicants who expressed interest in filling the role,” said board President Ti’Anna Harrison. “It speaks to the community’s interest in and support for the work of the school district.”
The appointee will fill a seat left vacant by trustee Tandy Moore, who resigned on June 8 for personal reasons. She was elected to a six-year term in November 2018.
The board accepted applications through June 20. The position must be filled within 30 days of her resignation as required by Michigan election law.
The person assigned to her position will serve the remainder of her term from July through December 2024.
