PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Public Safety police have arrested a suspect tied to a shooting that took place over the weekend.
Police say 29-year-old Atavion Jamaal-Devito Swindle of Kalamazoo allegedly carried out the shooting around 4:48 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 in the 2100 block of Lovebird Ct.
At the scene, responding officers discovered a single shotgun shell and birdshot pellets in the area along with several damaged vehicles. Preliminary investigation indicated that the male suspect parked his vehicle on Lovebird Ct., retrieved a shotgun from the trunk and fired a single shot at another male subject that arrived in the parking lot in a separate vehicle a short time later. The suspect then fled the area in his vehicle.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, June 20, charged Swindle with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm in the incident.
No other injuries were reported.
