Portage Road: Work there will begin at 9 a.m. to include curb and gutter repair, installation of center island boulevards, an extension of the non-motorized trail to East Centre Avenue with replacement of sidewalk and new driveway approaches, installation of a new traffic signal at Romence Road along with milling and paving operations.
The southbound curb lane of Portage Road will be closed from Romence Road to East Centre Avenue at 9 a.m. on Monday for the start of the project.
On Tuesday, crews will close the center lane at 9 a.m. with all traffic being shifted to the east side of the roadway while it’s reduced to one lane of travel in both directions. The shifts will occur south of East Centre Avenue and north of Romence Road.
City officials say this project is expected to be completed by late August, weather permitting.

South Westnedge Avenue: Construction will begin at 7 a.m. from Melody Avenue to Centre Avenue with the removal of the pedestrian island on South Westnedge Avenue near the Portage Central campus.
This project will also include storm sewer improvements, upgrades of sidewalks and ADA ramps, replacement of the traffic signal at Centre Avenue, replacement of the non-motorized trail south of Portage Central Elementary School, and driveway approaches.
City officials say motorists need to drive cautiously through this area as traffic movements will be controlled by flagging personnel.
They expect to have this project completed by September with all underground work and sidewalks completed by mid August.
