BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The City of Battle Creek will start charging late fees on unpaid utility bills as of Monday, July 3.
The City of Battle Creek utility bills include water, wastewater/sewer, and garbage/recycling services, as well as water and wastewater/sewer “readiness” charges, which fund maintenance and upgrades to their systems.
Utility bills late fees were waived during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that COVID is no longer considered an emergency, the city will bring back the late fee charges.
Starting again on July 3, the city will issue a late fee of 10 percent of the unpaid bill, on all bills that are paid more than 30 days after their due date.
The fee is only on the part of the bill that is 30 days past due, and not on a customer’s entire balance.
