LANSING, MI — Michigan officials have tried to lower auto insurance costs in Michigan but the cost involved in insuring a vehicle in Michigan is about to jump back up. Rates are rising on July 1st in Michigan.
The changes are due to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) increasing the annual per-vehicle assessments on all policies. For someone who has unlimited, lifetime medical coverage, the fee will go up to 122-dollars a year from $86, while other drivers – even those that decline the catastrophic coverage – will be charged $48 per vehicle per year. The MCCA says it is due to a deficit in its statewide catastrophic injury fund.
