KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As there are no shortages of scams out there, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says those pretending to be members of law enforcement are at it again.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the would-be scammers call their victims using phone numbers with a 2-6-9 area code or an actual phone number of a law enforcement agency. They then advise victims that an arrest warrant for them has been issued, and if bond money isn’t paid, they’ll be arrested at their home or place of business.
The Sheriff’s Office says for those who get a call such as this to hang up and report it to police immediately, because law enforcement agencies will never make a random call to say there is a warrant for an arrest.
And if an arrest warrant is issued, law enforcement officials will not demand payments, but will arrest the subject who will then be asked to appear before court.
The Sheriff’s Office goes onto say that bond payments can only be made after those two events happen within the process.
