VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two people died Friday after police say a vehicle crashed into two motorcycles in Van Buren County.
Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, June 9 on Red Arrow Higway near 60th Street east of Hartford.
According to police, a westbound vehicle driven by a 39-year-old Hartford man struck the back of two motorcycles also traveling west. The vehicle then crashed into a tree and caught fire. First responders were able to get the driver out of the burning vehicle but that driver died on scene.
Deputies also began life saving measures on the two motorcycle riders who were then transported to the hospital. One of the riders, a 30-year-old man from Lawrence, later died. The other rider was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash closed that portion of Red Arrow Highway for about five hours.
Authorities believe both speed and alcohol to be factors in the crash.
