EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State University announced Friday the distribution plan for its $2 million Spartan Strong Fund. Over 4,200 donations were made to the fund in the wake of the Feb. 13 shooting on campus, when a lone gunman killed three students and critically injured five others.
University officials said Friday they plan to use about half the money to support approximately 50 students who were present during the shooting and another $300, 000 to create a tasteful memorial on campus to those who were killed in the shooting.
In addition, about $500,000 from the fund will go toward mental health care for students, faculty, staff and first responders. The university said it will soon roll out a process for seeking reimbursement for those costs.
