DEWITT, MI — The Michigan Attorney General’s Office says 56-year-old Peter Counseller of DeWitt has been charged with embezzlement and financial elder abuse.
Counseller is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a blind 90-year-old woman and using the money to pay his mortgage, take vacations and spending on other personal expenses.
State officials say the Dewitt man also neglected to report the money as income on his tax returns. Attorney General Dana Nessel says Counseller faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
