KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Leaders holding held their second of two public open houses Tuesday morning, May 30 to discuss the two-way traffic re-design of Kalamazoo Avenue.
Those who attended the meeting at the Catalyst Center were able to view draft plans for the two-way conversion of the street, including plans outlining the proposed street configuration.
Attendees also got a close-up look at planned locations for transit upgrades, pedestrian improvements, and amenities such as curb bump outs, benches, lighting, street trees and smart traffic signal timing.
City officials say also that upgrades to water, storm, and sewer infrastructure underneath the street area are also included in the project plans.
A similar meeting was held last week on Wednesday at Bell’s Brewery. Both events gave community members a chance to share their opinions regarding the projects through discussions with those overseeing the effort.
Officials say construction on the project is expected to begin in 2024 and last through 2026.
