KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Whites Road in Kalamazoo is set to be closed temporarily between Parkview Avenue and Oakland Drive starting on Wednesday, May 31. The closure is scheduled to run through Friday, June 2.
City officials say the closure will allow for much needed electrical work. Work will also include water main replacement, storm water improvements, signal and intersection updates, and road resurfacing which will be ongoing until 2024.
On Monday, May 15, the Kalamazoo City Commission approved a contract with the state for the Whites Road water main and road work for $3.6 million.
Officials went onto say that when the road reopens, it’ll be reduced to a three-lane configuration, with one eastbound lane, one westbound lane, and a center turn lane.
Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians during this time and will be permitted for use by bicycles. Vehicle detours will also be posted.
