VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Department of Transportation getting set to rebuild and repave more than 3.5 miles of M-40 in Van Buren County starting on Monday, May 29.
Work will be done from South Lagrave Street in Paw Paw to 72nd Avenue in Lawton, and will include drainage improvements and rebuilding concrete curb and gutter and storm sewer markings.
MDOT officials say the two-year, $10.1 million dollar investment will improve the M-40 driving surface and safety, and include village infrastructure improvements in Lawton.
In 2024, crews will return to continue rebuilding M-40 from Union Street to 72nd Avenue. Work will include rebuilding concrete curb and gutter and storm sewer, culvert replacement, sanitary sewer relocation, streetscaping, and lighting.
During 2023 work, there will be single-lane closures on M-40, and two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators. There will be a total closure in 2024, and M-40 traffic through Lawton will be detoured on 72nd Avenue, Nursery Street, 66th Avenue, 32nd Street, and White Oak Road. Dates of that closure will be announced next year.
Construction is expected to be completed by late August in 2024.
