KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education has officially approved their contract with new superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade.
In addition to salary and benefits, the three year agreement lays out the evaluation process for Slade, dispute resolution, and termination provisions.
Board President TiAnna Harrison says they have agreed to set his annual salary at $230,000 a year, which is more than what former superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri was paid. Harrison says he deserves more because Slade has more experience in education than Raichoudhuri had.
The contract provides for the same benefits package and retirement plan as other administrators in the district, as well as up to $15,000 for moving expenses and an $800 a month allowance for transportation.
Harrison says Dr. Slade’s term will start July 1, 2023, but he will begin orientation June 26 and he will receive a per diem during that brief period.
The Board of Education is still working on how and when to hold sessions for Slade to meet with the public, as he gets used to his new district.
