PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The official start to the 2021 school bond projects in the Portage Public Schools is scheduled to start next week.
The 175 million dollar bond is set to replace five aging buildings, renovate one school, and update infrastructure to help give Portage students the best chance at success.
District officials are holding groundbreaking ceremonies at Central Elementary on Tuesday, May 23 at 2:15 pm, and at Haverhill Elementary on Monday, June 5 at 2:15 pm.
The three additional schools that will be replaced are Amberly, Angling Road, and Woodland, with Moorsbridge set to undergo an extensive remodel.
The bond scope includes:
- Rebuilding elementary schools build in the 1960s.
- Renovating Moorsbridge Elementary School, built in the early 1990s.
- Purchasing new, fuel-efficient buses to replace older ones.
- Purchase and update technology.
The timeline for the new schools is around 10-11 years.
