BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek Police have released more information about a body that was discovered in a grassy area north of the Battle Creek River on on Wednesday, May 17.
Authorities confirmed on Thursday, May 18 that the body is of a 24-year-old Paw Paw woman who they believe died from an overdose.
The deceased woman was discovered by a person passing by the area of Van Buren and Poplar streets around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police then began the investigation as a murder with preliminary findings indicating that the woman died of an overdose, in which authorities are awaiting forensic evidence to confirm that finding.
Police say the woman was with several other people at an apartment on the northeast side of the city when police believe she overdosed. They go onto say when the others realize she had died, they panicked, and moved the woman’s body outside at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
So far, two people have been arrested and charged with illegal carrying away of a human body.
Their arraignment is set for Friday, May 19.
