KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officials say a Kalamazoo resident involved in a shooting last week on Thursday, May 11 has died.
According to KDPS, 19-year-old Omarre Brishon Williams was shot in the head during the incident that took place in the area of Bridge Street and Gilbert Avenue.
Officers responded to the scene around 8:59 p.m. that evening and learned that Williams had been taken to the hospital with the gunshot wound. They then scoured the area and located the scene of the shooting, but found no suspects.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are asking for help from the public.
They went onto say that because Williams did not immediately succumb to his injuries, his family was able to work with Gift of Life of Michigan to arrange for the donation of his tissue and organs for those in need, saying that the family expressed an interest that something positive come from this tragedy.
The investigation into the murder is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division.
In a statement, KDPS officials said, “We cannot solve this senseless killing without the assistance of those in the community, who have knowledge of the case, to come forward.”
