KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Mayor David Anderson and Portage City Mayor are set to lead a three-mile bike ride to commemorate Kalamazoo Bike Week, which runs from May 13 – 20.
The Mayor’s Ride will start at Portage Creek at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at Portage Creek Bicentennial Park at 910 East Milham Avenue in Portage and continue along the trail to Milham Park at 607 East Kilgore Road in Kalamazoo.
Parking will be available at Portage Creek Bicentennial Park.
“A part of our A Natural Place to Move! logo emphasizes cycling,” said Mayor Randall. “Bike trails and bike lanes safely connect Portage to surrounding communities. As a community, we support all modes of transportation, including cycling.”
Mayor Anderson is encouraging everyone to join the Mayors’ (Bicycle) Ride and bicycle on their own.
“The Mayor’s Ride symbolizes the commitment that our Sister Cities have to health, the environment, and the opportunities for shared, safe, non-motorized transportation options in the Kalamazoo/Portage area,” said Anderson. “We encourage all residents to get outside, enjoy our biking infrastructure,
and stay safe!”
The Mayor’s Ride will be held rain or shine unless there is lightning or other inclement weather.
The ride is FREE and open to the public and no registration is required.
