ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM & WKZO-AM/FM) – Law enforcement entities in Michigan aren’t waiting for Memorial Day weekend to step up road patrols.
Beginning on Monday, May 15, 2023, state police troopers, county sheriff’s deputies and local police officers will increase their surveillance of highways and byways over a three-week-long period in an effort to cut down on traffic casualties. Seat belt use is the main focus of this particular enforcement initiative, but those in blue or brown will be looking for other driving habits that led to trouble, according to Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker.
Funding for those extra police patrols come from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds funneled statewide by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.
