KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County courthouse was evacuated Monday morning, May 8 due to a bomb threat.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says the threat was made over the phone with the subject providing enough details to give officers concern over specific areas of the building.
County employees were cleared to go back inside around 10 a.m.
According to Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting, if arrested, the suspect, who was not identified, could potentially face charges of false threat of terrorism, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Speaking with WWMT-Newschannel 3 following the incident, Getting said, “We’ll have to see how the investigation plays out before we can make a determination if any charges will be authorized. We’ll continue with the hearings that are scheduled for today which will be completed to the best of our ability with the time we have left.”
The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
