KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Commissioners on Monday, May 1 introduced a signal optimization project in an effort to increase traffic flow around the city.
Officials say the $205,000 project aims to optimize 41 traffic signals to not only reduce wait times, but prevent backups, delays, and other traffic problems.
Commissioners also voted on Monday to accept a federal Highway Safety Improvement Program grant worth $164,000 to help with the project cost with another $41,000 to come from the city.

- Westnedge Avenue at Howard Street
- Westnedge Avenue at Inkster Avenue
- Westnedge Avenue at Kalamazoo Avenue
- Westnedge Avenue at Lovell Street
- Westnedge Avenue at Michigan Avenue
- Westnedge Avenue at North Street
- Westnedge Avenue at Paterson Street
- Westnedge Avenue at South Street
- Westnedge Avenue at Vine Street
- Westnedge Avenue at Whites Street
- Park Street at Balch Street
- Park Street at Crosstown Parkway
- Park Street at Kalamazoo Avenue
- Park Street at Lovell Street
- Park Street at Michigan Avenue
- Park Street at North Street
- Park Street at Paterson Street
- Park Street at South Street
- Park Street at Vine Street
- Crosstown Parkway at Howard Street
Officials say the project’s final package is required to be complete and be sent to MDOT by August 17, 2024.
