PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – And get ready for another road construction project in Kalamazoo County to begin on Monday, May 1.
According to the City of Portage, construction on the Shaver Road Reconstruction Project, which begins next week, will take place over the period of two years.
City officials say the project will affect Shaver Road from the south city limits to Oakland Drive and will include the installation of barrier-free access at all sidewalk crossings including tactile warning surfaces, pavement milling, and resurfacing.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by mid-June 2023.
The second year of this project includes the replacement of water main from Oakland Drive to Vanderbilt Avenue, pavement milling, and asphalt resurfacing.
The expected construction period for the second phase is March through June 2024.
Motorists in the area should expect periods of lane restrictions. Access to driveways will be maintained except for brief periods during milling and paving operations.
Motorists are urged to seek an alternate route and use caution while driving in the project area.
