KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 14-year-old juvenile from Comstock Township was taken into custody early Wednesday after attempting to flee from deputies in a stolen pickup truck.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 3700 block of Woodmere Lane around 5:05 a.m. on a report of a homeowner who had their Ford F-250 pickup stolen out of their driveway. Deputies located the stolen vehicle driven by the 14-year-old minutes later near the intersection of North 26th Street and East Michigan Avenue in the Village of Comstock.
But when they tried to pull the truck over, the suspect fled west on East Michigan Avenue, crossing Sprinkle Road until it crashed into a guard rail at the intersection of Riverview Drive.
The suspect then put the stolen vehicle in reverse and rammed a patrol vehicle in an attempt to continue Fleeing. They were then apprehended whey they tried to escape through the passenger’s side door of the pickup.
The juvenile from Comstock Township, was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on charges of UDAA (Motor Vehicle Theft) and Flee and Elude. No deputies were injured during this incident and the suspect did not sustain any injuries.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
