After controversial dismissal of former chief, Kalamazoo Township now has new head of fire department

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Township has a new fire chief after a 4-3 vote by the township board of trustees to ratify the contract agreement with former battalion chief Jairus Baird.

He takes over the job after former chief David Obreiter was fired in mid-September.

Deputy Fire Chief Michael Wiedemann had served as interim chief and did not want the job full-time as he is approaching retirement.
