KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Centers for Disease Control has begun survey interviews in Kalamazoo County for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
County Health Director Jim Rutherford says they are excited to have the CDC study take place this year in Kalamazoo.
CDC spokesman Dr. Tony Nguyen says over 600 residents have been picked at random, will be asked health questions about themselves, and even receive a free health examination. He says it’s important, because every person they survey represents 65,000 other Americans just like them.
Participants get a gift card and help to participate, including daycare if they need it during the exam.
The survey will create a profile of the nation’s health status that lawmakers can use to propose legislation, doctors to assess patients and health officials to set policies.
