KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo man is dead following a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning, April 20 in Kalamazoo County.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Paw Paw Post say it happened around 7:30 a.m. on West D Avenue near North 2nd Street in Alamo Township.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by 40-year-old Rocky Uminn, was traveling east on West D Avenue before running off the roadway, striking a tree and overturning.
The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say while it’s unknown what cause the vehicle to leave the roadway, the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
MSP says it’s also unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Alamo Twp Fire Department and Life EMS. West D Ave near North 2nd St was shut down for approximately two and half hours for scene processing and cleanup.
