KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The process to find a new superintendent for the Kalamazoo Public Schools has been transparent so far, but that will change somewhat tonight.
The Board of Education plans to meet with their executive search firm in closed session this evening to narrow the list of 38 applicants down to a shorter list of semi-finalists.
Search committee member Jermaine Jackson says they had to agree to protect the identities of candidates in the first few rounds to avoid scaring them away. He says candidates don’t want current employers to know they are shopping around.
Semi-finalists will be interviewed later this month and the finalists in early May. Names will be revealed at that point.
There may be some discussions on tonight’s 6:00 p.m. agenda that will be held in open session, but the screening of the list of all the applicants will not.
