KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners has approved asking voters if they would back an increase in taxes to support veteran services.
The millage question would appear on the November 7, 2023 ballot. The request from the Veterans Affairs Committee is for a .10 mill increase to provide critical services to indigent veterans.
Committee chairman Micheal Fry says they have already run out of funding this year, and have been getting by on ARPA funds for the last two years. That money will run out soon.
The request got unanimous support from commissioners.
If approved, the additional millage would cost a homeowner with a $200,000 home about $10 a year more.
