KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo’s Historic Preservation Commission launched its KHPC/O’Connor Fund Competitive Grant Program in March, and applications will continue to be accepted through Friday, May 12, with grants of between $2,000 and $10,000 being made in two historic preservation program areas: Building Rehabilitation and Preservation Planning.
Officials with the commission say applicants must be non-profit or public organizations operating in the city of Kalamazoo, and that rehabilitation projects must include buildings that are more than 50 years old and originally built for a non-profit or public use.
They go onto say that grant-funded work must meet the Secretary for the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and align with the KHPC’s work plan and the City of Kalamazoo’s Imagine Kalamazoo Master Plan with work adhering to all City ordinances, including Chapters 18 and 18A regarding non-discrimination and fair housing.
The application and complete program details are available at www.kalamazoocity.org/OConnorF
Applications are due Friday, May 12, and each application will be scored for eligibility, program alignment, community impact, and applicant occupancy and capacity. Applicants will be notified of decisions on Friday, June 16.
Potential applicants should review all online materials, including the scoring sheet, and contact the City of Kalamazoo’s Historic Preservation Coordinator, Luis Pena by phone before applying at 269-337- 8804 or by email to PenaL@kalamazoocity.org.
