KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Get ready for more road work in Kalamazoo.
The first phase of repair work on Michigan Avenue from West Main Street to Harrison Street downtown is scheduled to start on Monday, April 17.
City officials say the work will start at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and West Main Street, progressing to the east. Lanes will be closed as needed surrounding the immediate work areas, but Michigan Avenue will remain open throughout the work.
Drivers should anticipate lane shifts and some impacts on side streets.
On-street parking will temporarily be unavailable immediately surrounding work areas.
The work will be completed in up to three passes along Michigan Avenue to minimize the impact of lane closures and disruption to traffic flow.
In July, additional work will be completed on Michigan Avenue to preserve its condition until it is reconstructed and converted to two-way traffic in 2026-2028.
The number of vehicle lanes will be reduced to the appropriate number for safe and efficient traffic flow downtown.
The reclaimed space will be used to add a two-way cycle track from W Main Street to Pitcher Street, and a one-way bike lane from Pitcher Street to Harrison Street.
