KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Built in 1957, Western Michigan University’s John T. Bernhard Center has served as a central hub for students, offering food options, meeting spaces, and of course, the Bronco Bookstore.
But soon it will be no more as officials plan to shut the doors on the well-known landmark in July as they make way for the unveiling of a new $60 million Student Center and Dining Facility to be located in the Hilltop Village.
Officials go onto say that the new center will feature restaurants, a pub, shops, unique gathering spaces, lounges and a student art gallery.
The grand opening of the Student Center had been delayed multiple time before the announcement of the July date in February.
Both students and alumni will get their chance to say their final goodbyes to the Bernhard Center on Thursday, April 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday with free swag and snacks as a part of the afternoon’s activities.
